About Tyra

Hello! My name is Tyra, and I'm a patient and enthusiastic English tutor currently pursuing my bachelor's degree in Secondary education with a focus in English (Grades 6-12 specifically). I have a passion for helping students grow in confidence and truly understand the language - not just memorization.

With my background in communication and working with diverse individuals, I specialize in creating a supportive, student centered environment where learning feels more comfortable and engaging. I understand that each student learns different, so I will tailor my lessons to fit your goals whether that is improving grammar, building conversational skills, or preparing for assignments.

Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your skills, I'm here to help you succeed at your own interactive pace. I look forward to working with you!

I come prepared with field experience, present-day occupational experience, and educational background. I have worked in physical classroom environments with K–8 students for over one year. My job entailed following direction to help lead instruction, maintain classroom control, and identify individual needs of students. I am currently a paraprofessional at a middle school working with special education students. I help by tutoring students, modifying lessons and materials, and fostering a safe and inclusive classroom environment.

I have been studying to become a teacher since 2021. I initially studied at University of Nevada, Reno but am currently obtaining my bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education – English (6-12) from Liberty University. I have taken many courses that not only teach content but the methodology of teaching. Classes include English 101, English Literature, Grammar, and Rhetoric. I have also taken courses that teach me how to differentiate lessons and literacy skills to accommodate my students.

When teaching, my style is student-based. I break down lessons into simple steps that are easy to understand. I make sure to provide examples that can be related to real life and keep my students engaged. My lessons are tailored to the student’s level, needs, and goals. I also teach based on the student’s learning style. As someone who works with special education students, I have learned to be very patient and creative when coming up with ways to adapt my lesson to my students.

Subject-wise, I am experienced in teaching English grammar, writing, reading, literary analysis, as well as basic communication skills and academic writing.
