About Margaret
Teaching Philosophy: Dyslexia Intervention
I believe that effective literacy instruction begins with a strong relationship between the teacher and the student. Before students can take academic risks, they need to know they are valued, understood, and believed in. My goal is to create a learning environment where students feel safe, supported, and empowered to grow.
I have always loved a classroom filled with the energy of learning—a place where there is collaboration, conversation, curiosity, and laughter. While structure and explicit instruction are essential for students with dyslexia, I believe joy and connection are equally important. Students learn best when they feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and celebrating their progress.
As a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist, I combine evidence-based instruction with a deep understanding of each individual learner. I use explicit, systematic, and multisensory teaching methods grounded in the Science of Reading while adapting instruction to meet each student’s unique learning profile.
I believe in getting to know the whole child, not just the reader. Throughout my career, I have taken the time to understand my students’ interests, families, cultures, strengths, challenges, and experiences. Learning about a student’s background helps me build meaningful connections and create instruction that is relevant, respectful, and motivating.
Many of the students I have worked with have experienced frustration or failure in reading. My role is to help them recognize that their challenges do not define their abilities. Through patience, encouragement, and carefully designed instruction, I help students develop the skills, confidence, and belief that they can become successful readers.
I also believe that strong partnerships with families are essential. I value open communication and collaboration with parents and caregivers because they are an important part of a child’s literacy journey.
My mission as a dyslexia interventionist is simple: to provide students with the structured literacy tools they need while creating a learning experience filled with confidence, belonging, and the joy of discovering that they can read.
