About Bailey
I have always been passionate about the process of learning, both for the student and teacher. I am a junior at Mount Holyoke College studying both Math and Computer Science. I've worked as a one-on-one Teaching Assistant for a year and love it dearly. I believe that everyone has the ability to understand math - even complex calculus and proof-writing. We are all different and sometimes the way something was originally taught to us doesn't compute, and that's okay! I am here to articulate any concept in as many ways as needed (or more!) to facilitate understanding.
In high school, I taught novices on the debate team complex philosophy and strategy needed to argue it. Inspired, I spent the summer before my senior year among high school debate coaches receiving training. Ever since working with kids my senior year, I knew I was passionate about the process of educating others and in turn educating myself.
I work as a one-on-one tutor for the Computer Science department at Mount Holyoke College and received training for the job.

I first ask how they feel about the subject we are going to talk about. It is important that they know that it's okay to not understand something at first and it is also okay to make mistakes. I let them know that I am not here to judge them, but to help articulate what they are working on in as many ways as they need to understand it. Learning is a process and getting something wrong simply means you are engaging in that process.
I've worked with students ranging from elementary school to college. I understand everyone learns differently. There are some who will pick up what the teacher says immediately and some who need it to be said in a different way. There is also everyone in between. I have worked with all of them and know that each person needs something a little bit different.
