About Katie
I have been a math tutor for 20 years. Focusing on higher level maths for 13 years. I like to get a sense of where my student is and focus on a learning style perfectly suited for them.
In elementary school, when teachers would explain a math problem to the class and some students wouldn't understand, it was always fun to figure out a way to word and explain it for them to understand. The most rewarding was when nobody else could get through to a student and I could figure out a proper approach.
I am currently a math major. I have been tutoring for years, unpaid.

I like to review information the student should already know, just to see what they have retained and truly learned. If there are are any lacking areas, I like to fix them before moving forward and listening to them explain and reading over their work to learn how their mind works. Once I get a better feeling of how they compute problems, it is easier to modify an explination perfect for them.
Elementary, middle school, high school, and college.
When looking to hire a teacher/tutor in math, understanding is a big role. If your teacher does not understand when you are not comprehending a topic, they may not know how to properly connect and explain it in the best terms.
I am currently tutoring a friend through his online class, college algerbra, and he has grasped things so well that the rest of his classmates comment about how much they love his discussion responses because he helps them understand the math.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think if a student is in need of any type of help they should reach out. The only question I feel they should think through first is if they are truly seeking help, or hoping for someone to just give them answers.
