About Noel

I truly believe in connecting with my students. Everyone has had teachers/professors who are very intelligent and knowledgeable in their profession. But the best teacher not only has the expertise, but also the communication and people skills. Throughout my 16 years of experience tutoring in math and science, I have seen my students succeed by tailoring my approach to each student's specific needs.

I love teaching and from a young age I have loved math. Math is a subject where if you break it down logically there is a systematic way to find the right answer. I have always loved logic problems and problem solving, and stepping through a math problem to find the correct answer is something that I honestly enjoy. One of my passions has been in helping students find more confidence in their approach to solving math problems. I also believe that math and science can be made much more accessible with the write teachers and communication.

I began teaching when I was in 6th grade. I was asked by the 7th grade math teacher to help some 8th graders who were struggling with CommonCore math. From there, I began taking advanced math classes at the University of Minnesota and tutoring elementary school kids in inner city St. Paul. Once I got to college, I was asked by several professors to register as a tutor with the school. I have tutored on and off since 2013 in NYC.

I have been a math tutor for 16 years. I have tutored all levels of K-12 math. I went to school for STEM and currently work as a geologist for the City of New York.

About the lesson

I find it easiest to start by asking what problems the student is having in class. From there we can start to work on the homework together and walk through each problem. I like to have students show me how they approach a math problem. If they are struggling to even approach a problem, we can walk through a variety of different ways to solve the problem.

One of the reasons I love teaching math is that there are so many different ways to solve math problems. I will help you find an approach that works for you, and help boost your confidence in approaching and solving math problems.

I have worked with students from K-12 grade in all levels of math. Most students I have worked with were working on CommonCore and prealgebra math. However I have also worked with algebra, trigonometry, and precalculus students.
