About Spencer
Through out attendence at Buffalo Grove High School, I took many high level math courses (up to Calc BC). Additionally, I was in other AP courses such as US History, Human Geography, Environmental Sciences, and Literature.
After high school, I attended University of Wisconsin - Madison as a Chemical Engineering student. After two and a half years I switched majors to Community and Nonprofit Leadership, with a minor in Environmental Studies. In that time I took high level math courses such as: Calculas 3, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Thermodynamics, and Physics 2.
In both high school and undergrad, I have used tutoring. This previous experience with tutoring has allowed me to see what an effective tutor looks like. Despite some tutors not starting out as what I needed, I learned that the best tutor adjusts to the student in a way that is productive to them.
Outside of schooling, I have had internships with University of Wisconsin Hillel and Clean Lakes Alliance in Madison, WI. In these positions I have been able to learn professional writing, how to insruct others on better practices, and proficient Microsft Suite skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

Being a recent college graduate, I understand the importance of getting help with school work. Not only would it mean that I would get the assignment done (and be able to hangout with friends), but I would learn how to practice and better understand the subjects on my own.
Tutoring made a significant difference in my schooling career, and I would be more than happy to do the same for a current student.
I have taken most math courses through out high school and college. In Chemical Engineering, I would frequent tutoring, which allowed for both a better understanding of the topic and a deeper understanding of an effective tutor.
Through my own tutoring, group work, and student engagement work, I have gotten a better idea of communicating questions and solutions.

About the lesson

To best understand a student, I would ask first what their main goals are of the tutoring session. If they have received tutoring in the past, I would ask what has and has not worked well.
I will preface appointments on asking if they need assistance on a homework assignment, or if they would like some supplimental problem sets.
If able, I will have the student attempt the problems or question and go through it with them following completion. I would then work through corrections with them. If more assistance is required I can work through a problem out loud, and ask for confusions along the way.
