About Isabella

As a young female engineer, I always wished I had more role models that could help me not only to be more successful in my coursework, but also to better understand what my academic strengths and passions were. I very much enjoy getting the opportunity to be that person for other learners, wherever they may be in their academic or career pursuits.

I run a no-judgment service, and having been down several different academic and career paths myself, I find I am in a good position to offer advice to many different kinds of learners.

I have always enjoyed being in teaching and mentoring positions, as I can understand first-hand how frustrating and disheartening it can be to feel lost academically. I enjoy being approachable and getting to know my students as they regain some academic confidence.

I find that students can get the most out of tutoring when they feel comfortable, and I enjoy forming a relationship with them as they remember how good it can feel to succeed academically.

Education-wise, I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, which involved a very math- and science-heavy courseload. I also have a certificate in Paralegal Studies from Boston University, which has enhanced my writing, communication, and analytical skills.

In terms of relevant experience, I have been in several teaching positions in the past. I started tutoring other high school students when I was in high school, and I continued that on a casual basis throughout college. Also during college, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for several undergraduate-level physics and engineering courses. I also have some more niche experiences, like teaching machine shop practices to adults, as well as STEM-education to young girls through the Society of Women Engineers.

About the lesson

I like to spend some time with a new student (and parents, if applicable) to understand their personal goals for the coursework for which they are seeking tutoring. This may include a grade improvement, simply feeling less frustrated in class, or anything in between.

I also like to understand how the student feels they learn best in order to better tailor my tutoring materials.

My hourly rate is $50/hour for pre-college coursework (elementary through high school), and $65/hour for undergraduate-level tutoring.
