About Laura

I am a credentialed high school math and science teacher with 15 years of tutoring experience and 6 years of classroom teaching experience. Right now I am taking some time off of teaching to stay at home with my toddler, but I want to continue applying my passion for teaching and learning in a tutoring format. I was an applied physics major in college and have taught 7th grade math and science, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, AP Calculus, and Physics. I work with my students to have a growth mindset when learning math. We find the enjoyment in finally "getting it" after working hard to understand a problem.

I have a bachelor's degree in Applied Physics from UC Santa Cruz. While I was a student there, I started working as physics a tutor and completed the tutor training program through the Learning Support Services Center on campus. In 2011, I began teaching Algebra 2 and Geometry in Oakland and earned my teaching credential over the next two years. In 2014, I completed the College Boards AP Training Course to teach AP Calculus AB. I also added physics to my teaching credential and started teaching that. I have been to extensive training to teach common core math and NGSS Science. All together, I have 6 years of classroom teaching experience and 15 years of one-on-one tutoring experience.
