About Cathy
My goal is for learners to understand the why behind mathematical concepts. I have been tutoring math since I began college in 1983 and taught middle and high school math for 8 years.
Qualifications
- BA applied mathematics and statistics CSUS
- MA education CSULA
- Math CA single-subject teaching credential
- Member Phi Kappa Phi and Kappa Delta Pi honor societies
I love being part of the learning experience and helping learners reach that "Ahh" moment.
I had a math professor during my under-graduate studies show told me I should be a math teacher and at the time I thought he was crazy. Years later I realized that I have a passion for teaching and a passion for math so I became a math teacher.
My coursework earning my BA was heavy on mathematical theory and I understand why and how math works.

I like to get to know a new student's learning style and thinking process so that I can tailor explainations to the individual.
I have worked with students from 6th grade to college with multiple learning styles and levels of academic success.
Find a teacher who is able to explain concepts in a way that make sense to the individual student.
I had the opportunity to literally travel around the globe in 2019. I visited Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Russia, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Japan and Tiawan in one trip. I learned a lot about other cultures and saw some amazing sites.
