About Jennifer

I've been teaching all levels of math since 1986. I'm pretty good at it. I'm currently a university instructor, but really enjoy high school, middle school, and elderly students as well!

I wanted to help my community so I started tutoring a developmentally delayed adult who wanted to get better at math. I loved it. My college didn't have a teacher ed program, so upon graduation I decided to just try teaching as a piece corps vol. It was the best idea I ever had! Loved it ever since.

Masters in Math Education.

Tons of Math.

Taught high school in the inner city, taught middle school in Africa, in French.

Tutored (all levels) since 1983.

Have taught at the college level since 1995.

Working on my doctorate in Math Ed & Equity.

Working with Indigenous students and cultural relevance since 2004.

Prepared many students for post-grad STEM work and grad programs.

About the lesson

Have a conversation, discuss their goals and math history, practice some problems together, laugh a little.

People of color, people in poverty, White midwesterners, rural folks, adults who have returned to pursue goals, teens, families who homeschool, urban people, students with 3rd grade mathematics levels, GRE-prep students, high school kids who feel lost, brilliant students, privileged people, and more.

Make sure you feel comfortable with them! Interview them first, and don't ever settle for 2nd best... don't be ashamed either! You are hitting this person to help you, because you deserve it.
