About Allan

As a high school senior, I know very well what it feels like to be mystified by my courses. Having recently completed courses such as Algebra 2, Precalculus, and AP Physics 1, my fresh and up-to-date experience will be invaluable in helping you achieve in your studies. Being closer to your age, you will find me to be more relatable than an adult and see me as a peer rather than a teacher.

I love problem-solving. It applies to tutoring students, too. As a current student, I know every student has unique struggles that impede their education and force them to seek help. Being a tutor is much more personal than being a teacher, allowing me to understand the individual challenges facing those I am helping. I then tailor a strategy to help them overcome that challenge.

I grew to enjoy teaching by first helping my friends, peers, and sibling with their schoolwork. Eventually, I became a volunteer teacher for Teaching for Nepal, an organization fighting educational inequity in Nepal, where I taught English to Nepalese children and gave me valuable insight into teaching.

I will first have a casual conversation with a new student. This not only helps me build a closer relationship with them but also allows me to grasp the challenges that they face. I will not walk my students through the steps to solve a problem. A straight-up explanation tends to give them the impression that they fully understand the problem and they will forget about it quickly afterward. Rather, I ask questions about the problem to my students that advances their thinking.
