I have a bachelors's degree in mechanical engineering, including a minor in mathematics. I have lots of tutoring experience in one-on-one settings and group settings. I have worked with struggling students, and extremely gifted students alike.

About the lesson

First, I get a sense of what the student's goals are (i.e. pass exam x or learn subject y). Next, I ask the student if they have a plan for how they would want to use our session. If not, I usually jump right into questions or problems they have to assess where they are in terms of mastering the material. Depending on their proficiency, I either start with conceptual explanations or example problems.
I have worked with elemantary school students struggling with algebra. And I have worked with college students taking their fourth semester of calculus, and gifted high school students from around the world studying discrete mathematics.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Try to know what you want to accomplish. And try to know what areas are your strengths and what are your weaknesses. This will make the time you spend with a tutor much more efficient.
