About Maggie
I was a tutor in high school, college and post college for students struggling with math. I have knowledge and experience in other subjects but enjoy math most. I am not here to just give your child the answer. I take time to have them think through what they are doing and actually learn. I have been given feedback that this process increases students test scores because they actually understand why instead of being a robot to the steps. I am also a stickler for having them write out the steps and not relying on a calculator. This helps prevent "hard coding" of thinking quickly in their head and making mistakes, while "hard coding" the correct method. I only request that our first visit not be an urgent 'test is tomorrow and it's 7pm'. This added stress for me and the student can quickly turn the session into panic and frustration for them. I'm available to meet at home or a library after school and in the evenings, as well as weekends!
My favorite part of tutoring is the light bulb moment where a concept finally clicks for a student!
