About Simon

I am a Mechanical Design Engineer with a passion for math, science, and engineering subjects. I have extensive tutoring experience and I tailor each experience to the student and their needs. My goal is to give students the confidence they need to learn what is before them so that they can succeed in life - whether it's passing an exam, improving a grade, taking the SAT or ACT, getting a 5 on an AP test, or learning how to be a better friend.

I have always had a passion for mathematics, and I love seeing others take on that passion when learning.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I have worked as a mechanical design engineer for the past 5 years in the semiconductor industry. I've mentored youth through one-on-one sessions, youth groups, summer camps, and tutoring over the past 10 years.

About the lesson

I start with the basics: subject, personal introduction, and I ask about what the student hopes to gain from our sessions (homework help, test help, or general subject knowledge). Then I will move onto homework problems, study guides, or practice problems if the student has none where I will ask the student to demonstrate their knowledge by solving the problem as best as they can. Once I understand what they don't know, I will explain it, demonstrate it, and then observe as they solve a similar problem on their own. I will repeat this process throughout the rest of the session. I like to end our session with a recap and encouragement on their progress.
