About Margaret

I have enjoyed teaching students since my college days. One reason I especially enjoy tutoring math is helping a student realize how simple and logical math really is. Once it becomes something more fun and descriptive, with some rhymes, students are less intimidated and make rather rapid progress. Also, I spent my entire career working with math in various forms - meteorology - and have a unique perspective on what "math" can do!

I just finished teaching elementary and middle age students and now wanting to do part time tutoring. What I loved most about working with children is learning the language they hear best! Once you speak the same "language" and can communicate, learning happens so much easier. My greatest reward in working with children is watching them "get it" and those other "ah ha" moments that elevate them to the next level.

I tutored college students while in college through Calculus 1.   Recently I taught reading intervention for 3 years in our local elementary school and substitute taught for 3 additional years.   I taught English to Chinese students online for 3 years also.   I worked in meteorology for 30+ years where I used applications of math in unique ways.

Each student is unique and getting to know the student and getting them to feel at ease is my first goal.   Then I like to learn about the student and let them tell me what they do well and what challenges them.   I like them to tell me where they are to help in the bonding process between teacher / student.   To ensure a student understands a concept, I like to have them be the teacher and teach me.
