About Latrice

I have been working with students of all ages to help in understanding mathematical concepts. Math can be fun but not everyone sees it that way. Often it takes helping students get past a specific concept in order for math to "make sense".

I like helping students find the understanding and start to appreciate math. I like the moments when the "lightbulb" goes on and students understand the concept and can solve problems that they had difficulty with before. But I also like helping other people appreciate math the way I do and see where it fits into the everyday world.

I have a bachelor's in mathematics, a master's in applied mathematics, a Ph.D. in online education; I taught two years of high school math, and 20 years at the university level. In addition to these, I have worked with students in after school programs, and math-related organizations.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, I try to get an understanding of what the student already knows, what their prior math history is, and where they are planning to go with their learning. I also try to get a sense of how the student learns whether it's through visual, kinetic, or auditory learning. In addition to this, I try to find out what things the student likes so that I can try to relate the mathematics to their interests.

I have worked with middle school, high school, and college students in courses ranging from pre-algebra to differential equations. I have worked with students on SAT/ACT and Praxis prep. I have also worked with adults on GED and specialized math courses (such as math for airframe and power plant engineers).

Details

For students who are working on algebra or geometry I usually charge $15/lesson for a one hour session.

For students who are working on trigonometry or precalculus, the charge is $20/lesson for a one-hour session.

For students who are taking calculus (differential, integral, or multi-variable), the charge is $25/lesson for a one-hour session.

For students taking advanced mathematics (linear algebra, differential equations, etc.), the charge is $30/lesson or one-hour session.
