About Dustin
My name is Dustin and I am a master's student at Northeastern University and a highly qualified tutor with a strong background in science, mathematics, and English. I received my double bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and music from California State University, Long Beach, where I consistently made the Dean’s List for my outstanding grades. In addition to my academic achievements, I also have a wealth of practical experience, having served as the president of the International Society of Automation, an engineering organization at my university. My diverse background, broad range of experiences, and ability to approach topics from multiple angles make me well-equipped to help you excel and prepare for higher education.
As a tutor, my primary goal is to help my students achieve academic success and reach their full potential. In addition to providing expert guidance on coursework and exam preparation, I offer support in other areas that are crucial to academic success, such as academic advising, time management, and personal development. On average, I am able to help my students raise their grades by a letter and a half. One of my students was able to go from failing their math courses to earning a math award the next year and being nominated for student of the year. Some of my students have gone on to study at prestigious universities like Arizona State University, UC Irvine, and UChicago.

Like with any student, I aim to be as flexible and accommodating as possible for new students. In the first lesson, I assess their academic weaknesses and strengths and I begin to address any foundational gaps in knowledge that are holding them back from being excellent.
I have worked with students as young as 5 and with adults well into their professional careers. My students have all had very different learning styles and preferences, all of which I have learned to navigate and adapt to in my lessons. New students always provide a unique, yet fulfilling, challenge for me because what works for one student may not necessarily work for another and it's up to me to find ways to break past any walls that they're encountering.
Students looking for a teacher in my area of expertise should look for one who seeks to instill a sense of understanding and curiosity in students, rather than one who simply teaches by rote or step-by-step instructions. While teaching "by step" will help students get through their immediate issues, it does not address the root cause of many students' struggles in math and science.

For one session a week it makes a significant difference. I struggle with the conceptual sides of chemistry and math and these sessions have helped me get the larger picture. Always on time and efficient with communication. Definitely recommend! :)
I really enjoyed working with Dustin! He was able to explain things in a very clear way that I could understand. I would definitely recommend him.
