About Jamieka

Jamieka Wilkinson is a former mathematics educator where she employed problem-based learning connecting mathematical concepts to authentic, real-world problems for 9–12 learners. She ensures that every lesson is aligned to Common Core Standards and 21st-century skills, and draws upon her 5+ years of experience in curriculum and instruction development to include technology implementation within the classroom, and creates culturally-relevant programs to foster equity and amplify the strengths of marginalized and excluded communities.

Jamieka holds a Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Mathematics Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Florida. She has four peer-reviewed research publications focused on K–12 computer science education. She is certified by the Florida Department of Education as a Professional Educator and in 5–12 Mathematics. Her colleagues and learners describe her as analytical, creative, understanding, and goal-oriented.

I started my journey as a mathematics educator in a large school district in the State of Florida. I primarily worked in public school systems including public charter schools with a focus on problem-based learning.

About the lesson

At Count It Up, we begin by assessing the learner to better determine the mastery level of the subject- or grade-specific standards. Next, we develop a customized learning path for teaching the standards and concepts to ensure mastery of all standards. Throughout the tutor-learner relations, we continuously help the student progressively succeed in math by offering homework review sessions and bi-weekly (or monthly, dependent on tutoring package selected) check progress milestones. The results are transformative – kids will see measurable changes in attitude, confidence, and school progress.
