I have worked with children and people of all ages in peer programs and tutoring.

About the lesson

When starting to work with new students I like to get an understanding of what kind of a learner the student is by asking them to do a few simple problems and to narrate their process. I want to help students learn in the way that works best for them, and concentrate on helping students develop skills that can be utilized throughout their studies.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
In terms of academic needs/ problems with specific coursework or lessons:

Students should attempt all coursework on their own at first, and attempt to answer all questions. If the student is completely unsure about the what the question is asking or how to solve the problem, the student should mark the areas of the problem that they do understand (vocabulary in the question, add/sub/multiply/divide rules, positivs/neagtive sign rules, PEMDAS, right triangle angles, etc). It is important to try to identify every part of the problem that they understand. Then, after writing down all the information they could deduce from the problem, they are to take their best guess.

Students should talk to teachers about their academic needs after doing this so that they develop deducing skills on their own and are able to identify their specific problem areas.
