About Ali
As someone who didn't learn best in a "traditional" teaching style I believe that all students deserve access to the tools that will help them achieve their goals. I follow a multi-dimensional, student led teaching style. Using manipulatives and different examples and resources to not only teach a concept but help with mastery. I went from thinking I could never finish high school to studying to become an aerospace engineer. I have over 5 years of experience as a tutor and a student teacher working with ages 6 to 18. In math, science, and history I have worked with first grade through twelfth grade, in both one on one and group settings. While teaching first grade I also focused on helping students learn to read. I also have experience teaching ESL students and students with learning disabilities including ADHD and autism.
I have worked as a student teacher for 2 years and I have taken 4 years of child development and psychology classes.

First I like to do a meet and greet with the student and parents to get a baseline understanding for goals and where any issues may be arising. It's important for me to assess the purpose of the tutoring whether that is for additional support to master a subject, catching up for someone who has fallen behind, or continual support for a difficult subject.
Then in the first few sessions I work with the student to build familiarity and determine which tools or techniques are best suited for their learning style.
