About Mary
I have over 5 years of experience as an academic tutor. I hav tutuored kindergarten, elementary, middle, high school, and college students in various subject areas including, but not limited to, mathematics, reading & writing, grammar, science, history, economics, government, programming language, and Microsoft Office.
My strength is Math and English, but I am happy to tutor most every subject.
I've always had a love for teaching, but formally began by tutoring.
I am continuing to work on obtaining my teaching certification, while substitute teaching at the local school district. I have also student taught at various schools, at different levels.

I like to get to know my students, particularly by assessing their current knowledge. I primarily like to make sure that my students have any "learning gaps" filled in before learning new content, so that they are more readily able to understand the content.
I have worked with K-12 students and college students, of diverse backgrounds.
Make sure that the teacher has a passion for making sure that the students are successful, and truly learn the content. One thing is to encourage rogue memorization, and another thing is to be passionate for knowing the answer to the "why" things are the way they are-- otherwise, how can a student be expected to transfer the knowledge to other applications?
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Have I done my best to be self sufficient and research this topic myself?
Something that I encourage my students is to be their own teachers. Don't know something? Look it up. Watch videos. Read the definition.
A tutor's job isn't to be around forever. Rather, it is their job to make sure that they're not, by ensuring that their student knows the subject matter, can apply it to other circumstances, and is self sufficient, self made.
