About Hanna

Being an avid learner, especially in math, I want to make it my mission to spread the beauty of mathematics to others. I specialize in AP Calculus AB, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Basic Math.

I have tutored several kids in subjects such as Algebra 1 and Geometry. I've tutored since the beginning of 2019. As a recently graduated senior attending UCLA in the fall, I am looking for a way to earn money while also doing what I love.

I have earned a 5 on my AP Calculus AB test and a 4 on my AP Calculus BC test.

Aside from mathematics, I also counsel in college essay writing (specifically for the UC Application), as the four essays I've written for the UC application has gotten me into all the five schools I applied to: UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCI, UCSD, and UCSB.

I feel that tutoring is a job that benefits both the tutor and the student. I get to learn more deeply about the subject at hand and understand it from a different perspective while the student better grasps the subject itself!

When working with a new student, there are usually two directions. 1) The student is completely new to the topic or 2) The student has problem areas they would like to work on. When working with option 1, I introduce the subject to the student, starting from the basics. I make sure they understand as we go through the lessons, asking questions occasionally. I'll give them a general overview of how we'll go about learning the topic as well so they feel comfortable. As for option 2, I inquire them about the areas they feel less comfortable in and ease my way into this sub-topics, treating it as a new subject.

As for college essay writing, I'd like to get a feel for more student's interests, hobbies, and personality so that I can better aid them to write a comprehensive essay that truly speaks for who they are as an individual. I believe that college essay writing is a very individual process, but one that will require some help from others with experience or technical writing skills. I want my student's essay to shine and reflect who they are in the best way possible.

I have worked with 8th and 9th graders so far.

For students looking for teachers in subjects such as AP Calculus, they should try to find teachers that are well versed in the AP style questions and testing. It would be best if they worked with someone who has seen the test and done well on it.

As for students who are looking for a college essay counselor, starting early is best. Don't hesitate to reach out and definitely do not procrastinate!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should identify, as specifically as possible, their problem areas in a subject so that it will be easiest for the teacher to assist them!
