About Katherine
I completed my B.S. in Economics with a minor in Mathematics in May 2021 and I will be earning an MA and a PhD in Economics beginning in September 2021.
I've seen how the pandemic has disproportionately affected public school children and I'd like to help them catch up on math concepts that were not fully explained through online/distance learning. No child should suffer academic consequences that were out of their control.
(concealed information)
I've always been the math tutor in the family and once I was able to branch out into my nanny role, I offered tutoring my three children daily.
(May 2021) B.S. in Economics and a minor in Mathematics from UNCG. My Economics degree required quantitative analysis, calculus, and statistics courses and my Mathematics minor required discrete structures and graph theory.
I'm currently a Nanny working for one family with three children ages 17, 12, and 9.

Once I get an overview of what they already know and what they need to understand, I like to explain these concepts using practical examples. By proving the importance of mathematical skills in every career field, the student can have a better understanding of the larger picture and purpose of the different concepts, i.e. changes over time, efficiency, recognizing patterns, etc.
K-12, average and advanced learners.
Make sure you are comfortable with their personality and learning styles. If you have any concerns, don't be afraid to be honest. A good tutor should be able to adapt to you and your needs.
I was able to explain how RSA (an encryption method) works to the 9 and 12 year old children who I nanny. I thought if I could do that, I could also teach them long division.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should understand why what they're learning is important. If they don't see the "bigger picture", ask for help; concepts can become intuitive.
