About Debbie
Aloha! I am a licensed Elementary special education teacher, certified in the Orton-Gillingham method. I believe in providing a quality education to all students. As a lifelong dancer and visual artist, I am a strong supporter of and practitioner of a whole-child approach. I am a graduate of John's Hopkins University (M. S. Ed.). I would love the opportunity to work with your child - please let me know if you have any questions!
I love the moment when knowledge clicks for a student, when you see the lightbulb go off, when the cloud of frustration dissipates. If I can be the support to get you or your student to that moment, then I have done my job!
As an undergraduate, I studed neuroscience and the science of seeing. With this basis, I have strong working knowledge o the visual learning system and processing systems of our brain.
Since then, I have completed my master's degree in educational studies, obtained certification as an Orton-Gillingham practitioner and as an Early Childhood, Elementary, & Special Education (Mild/Moderate) educator in the State of Hawai'i.

Debbie makes learning fun! Our preschooler LOVES Debbie! She always brings such fun games to every session and we definitely see the growth!
We met Debbie when my daughter started her junior year and we wanted some extra help for her SATs. We interviewed several tutors as we really wanted our daughter and the tutor to get along. When we interviewed Debbie, we knew that she was going to be a good fit. She was full on trying to understand my daughter's personality and needs and altered her lessons around my daughter. Her lessons were creative and effective. She not only helped her with SATs itself but also helped her with extra skills such as test taking skills and note taking tips.
