About Diego

With 5 years of teaching experience, I focus on helping students gain a conceptual understanding of the mathematical objects they encounter rather than the usual mechanical approach taught in schools. For my teaching efforts, I was awarded a Teaching Excellence Award from Iowa State University during my time in graduate school.

The best feeling in the world is when a student finally gets over their fear of mathematics and starts enjoying it for the first time.

I began as a teaching assistant in my fourth year of graduate school at Iowa State University. My first course was an online course in Discrete Mathematics for Business and Social Sciences.

I received my PhD in mathematics from Iowa State University in 2022. I have 5 years of teaching experience: two years as a teaching assistant at Iowa State University, two years as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Dallas, and one year as a visiting assistant professor at Sam Houston State University.

About the lesson

I typically start out by listing the topics on which the student wants to focus. I proceed to create a test to gauge the current level of understanding of the student to target certain problem areas. This allows me to better serve the needs of the student by focusing on strengthening basic skills before moving on to more advanced topics. It is necessary to have a strong foundation in order to build upon it.

I have worked exclusively with undergraduate students across all levels of instruction. I have experience teaching anything from college algebra to senior-level undergraduate math courses.

Look for a teacher who treats you like a person and not another statistic. There is value in connecting with your students at a personal level while still maintaining a professional relationship.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. What conceptual understanding issues do I have?

2. What computational problems do I have?

3. How do I feel when I encounter one of these problems?

For online services, I charge $40 an hour. That covers the costs of prepping and instruction.

For in-person services, I charge $70 an hour. That covers the costs of travel in addition to prepping and instruction. Plus, there is much more value in receiving in-person services than online.
