I've always had a love for mathematics. Growing up I saw a lot of my peers struggling in and resenting math. At first I started helping the younger kids at daycare with their homework. Then, in high school my teacher would refer my peers to study/ do homework with me. From there, I've worked with my local church to turtor students who needed help.
I worked at a daycare center for 5 years and helped students with subjects they were struggling with.

About the lesson

First I ask my student what they are learning in class to see their level of understanding. Then we read through the chapter they are learning and pick out the important parts for their homework. Next, we practice until my student can complete the problem on their own.
Trial and error will get you far. You won't know what works for you until you gove it a try.
I remember working with a 3rd grade student who was struggling with multiplication. This was a long session for the both of us. We drew table after table and after 2 hours we finally got it down. I used questions from his homework and changed the numbers around to make sure he understood what he was doing and not just memorizing. Sure enough, we made a breakthrough.
