About Pam
My mom worked in the school system that I grew up in for many years. I always enjoyed talking with her coworkers and meeting her students. I really loved interacting with the kids. I enjoyed talking to my mom about her workday, and she would tell me how rewarding it was to teach.
Then later on upon entering my first semester of college, I met a friend that happened to be pursuing a teaching degree. I was still figuring out a major at the time. My friend told me all about the classes she was taking, the quality of the professors and the career path. I was leaning toward an education degree, but after I saw her enthusiasm, I knew it would be the perfect career for me...and I was right.
Bachelor of Science in Education degree with minor in early childhood. 30 years teaching experience in grades K-2.

My method is to first develop a rapport with the student. I ask them about themselves in order to get to know them (e.g. siblings, sports, hobbies, pets, free time activities, etc.). Then I tell them a little about myself. I assure them that I like to make the learning process as fun as possible. Learning is the objective, but I want my students to laugh and have fun while doing it.
I have worked in Title 1 schools for 3 of my 30 years. The remaining years I spent teaching in schools that performed very well in state-wide aptitude testing. For instance, the elementary school in which I taught in North Carolina before my retirement, was one of the top five scoring schools in the state almost every year of the 19 years I was there.
Always be prepared to discuss with your teacher the specific learning needs you have.
Make sure you have the proper school supplies ready for your lessons.
My husband and I have just built and moved into our forever home in the mountains. We are empty nesters now, and enjoy going on long walks with our three dogs.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Do I have my the proper text book(s) and supplies needed for my teacher/lesson?
Am I in a quiet space free from any interruptions or distractions during my instruction?
