About Nick

About Me:

I am a 22 year old college student currently studying to be a high school math teacher at the University of Kansas. I have previous training and work with AVID tutoring as well as 4 years of experience in child care.

My Message to Parents or Students:

Math tends to be a very difficult subject for most kids and even adults to learn. My goals as a tutor focus on conceptualization, rudimentary understandings to real world application and struggle. My passion as a tutor is watching a child or young adult work through the cracks, push themselves and see the practicality, curiousities and importance of a subject. I can't forget to mention the kids make my job great and inspire me to continue on this not so lucrative career path. Despite this. working as a tutor not only makes your child or student better at math, it helps me be a better teacher as well. I am extremely excited to start tutoring and hope to hear from you!

The kids! I love learning about the different ways a child learns and various ways to approach teaching different kids. Seeing a kid get a spark for a subject or technique they have struggled with for a long time is the reason I do this. I am overjoyed to see results from our sessions as well as feedback from the kids' homework and tests

I've always looked up to teachers growing up. Its always been an innate feature of who I am.

About the lesson

I enjoy getting to know who they are, what they're interested in and their most effective style of learning. I try and relate topics to things they're interested in to keep focus and drive in learning

6-8 study groups as well as 9-12, but I have 4 years of experience being around K-5 through summer camp counseling

Don't hire a tutor who will easily give your child the tools to succeed. When I say that, I refer to "here's the equation, just plug in the numbers" mentality of teaching. If a child really wants to apply the things they learn in sessions, they need to understand it at a fundamental level and struggle to find the equation. I found this to be the most effective way to learn a topic

Just today I talked to my grandpa for 30 mins about his experiences as a kid. Who he was, what he did, how he felt... He's fairly ill, and I really cherished that moment of time with him.
