About Amaris

Welcome to XL Tutoring! My name is Amaris Kim and I will be a senior at Leonia High School for the 2021-2021 school year. Not only will I provide your child with a quality tutor experience, but I will also guide your child on how to excel and be successful in school while reducing stress as much as possible.

It is important to understand that different students learn at different paces and through different methods. Unfortunately, not all schools are able to accommodate to every single student so I am here to help fill that gap. Being a student who always strived to be excellent in academics, I hope to impart the knowledge and resources that I gained to help other students excel.

Tutoring Experience

- I have volunteered at a non-profit organization called Family Touch for five years. For three years, I have volunteered for the Literary in Touch Program tutoring and mentoring kids in literature and mathematics. Specifically, I help them with any homework that they have (no matter the subject), create reading comprehension activities, teach mathematical skills, and more.

- I have volunteered as a Book Club Mentor at a non-profit organization called the Korean Community Center for one year. I took on the role of creating personalized book recommendations and related literature activities for each student I had. Such activities included creating vocabulary lists, reading comprehension questions, discussion questions, and more.

- I have years of experience in tutoring and working with students. I am confident in my ability to effectively communicate with students so that they may excel in their education.

National Honor Societies

- I am a founding member of the Mathematics National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and tutor students at my school in mathematics.

- I am a member of the National Honor Society and tutor students at my school in whatever subject they need.

- I am a founding member of the National Business Honor Society and regularly aid students within and out of my class with business-related content.

Important Information

- I consistently remain on the High Honor Roll and Honor Roll at my school and am in the Top 5% of my class.

- I am a Peer Leader in the Peer Leadership Program and at the start of the 2020-2021 school year, I will be helping freshmen transition into high school.

- I have competed at DECA, a renowned non-profit organization that prepares students for careers in business, at the regional and state level. I am also a member of The Marketing and Business Leadership Academy at my school with a concentration in Marketing.

- I am a member of The Leonia Academy of STEM at my school.

- I was the Vice President of the French Club and am currently the President.

- I have held the position of Representative in my school's Student Senate for three years.

- I participate in two sports during two seasons, Volleyball and Swimming, at the Varsity level.

- In 2019, I received the Gold President's Volunteer Service Award in the Teens age group.

About the lesson

Each process will be different depending on the student, but I always have an engaging, organized approach to tutoring. I love interacting with students and listening to what they have to say so that I can best tailor the tutor experience to their needs. Once I understand the student's needs and priorities, I will create a plan and gather resources that will best benefit the student. I will always keep in contact with the parent/guardian with progress updates and general information.

I have worked with students in Kindergarten to 7th grade. During my years volunteering as a tutor, I have been paired with students that have a hard time focusing. I have been recognized for my patience and ability to communicate well with students of all ages. I am willing to work with students who are in their freshmen or sophomore year of high school. I have an abundance of knowledge, advice, and resources that will help the student become successful in high school.

The price will depend on the length of the session and the number of subjects that I am asked to tutor the student in. To give an estimate, the price will range around $20-$40. While some tutors offer only help in academics, I guarantee that I will provide your child with resources and knowledge that will help him/her succeed in and out of school.
