About Raychel
I have been tutoring at a High School for at-risk youth for over two years. I teach all subjects but specialize in Algebra, Geometry, and Essay Writing/Critical Thinking. My students love working with me because they prefer my patient teaching style and ability to scaffold complex tasks. I am currently in a credential program at Cal State Long Beach to become a Special Education teacher. I have a passion for working closely with students, discovering their strengths, processing trauma, and preparing them for success beyond the classroom. I hold a B. A. in Women's Studies from the University of California, Irvine where I also completed all the undergraduate math and chemistry series.
I hold a valid 30-day Sub Credential, passed the CBEST (74/80 Math, 64/80 Reading, 63/80 Writing) and am waiting for my CSET Multiple Subjects results.

First, I will assess the student's level of comprehension in the particular subject/assignment to determine what I need to teach or review. Depending on how far the student can produce correct steps/work I will decide what types of resources I will incorporate and what level of scaffolding of the material they require. For example, with math I will see how much of a problem a student can do on their own and transition from sample problems, to guided practice, to monitored indepenent practice, providing feedback along the way.
