About Sean

My service stands out because I tutor beyond the purpose of wanting to help the student just understand the concepts, I want to build the student's confidence in the subject so that even future concepts will come easier because the student believes that they can understand it.

My favorite point in tutoring is the moment when the student actually realizes that they are understanding something that had given them so much trouble. It's very rewarding to see someone genuinely understand something that has caused them stress in the past.

I started just helping classmates in courses I was taking. Since I was pretty good at it, getting one of my friends through calculus with my tutoring, I decided to try it for community service in college too. It was an overall very good experience so I decided to continue from there.

I have math experience through Calculus and Differential Equations. I have previously tutored as community service to those attempting the HiSET (the new version of the GED) as community service and was very successful with my students.

About the lesson

Finding out the area that they are truly stuck on. They may have difficulty with the subject overall, or just be struggling on a concept. Previous students I have had have even had trouble just believing THEY personally could understand it because people said they couldn't in the past causing a mental block. Working through any of these helps but you need to know which to fix from the start.

In the past I worked with adult students who were attempting the HiSET (the new version of the GED). I was tutoring basic math through algebra and fractions. The main thing I learned from this experience is everyone learns differently but everyone can learn it, even if they previously were made to believe they couldn't.
