About David

I was helping classmates with math in high school as early as my freshman year. After moving off to college following high school graduation, I signed up as a math tutor with the university's tutoring program and worked there for several years.

I have since been employed as a software engineer for over 20 years. I enjoy helping students learn the math skills they need to succeed in school, and I look forward to helping you or your student in your math journey.

I enjoy seeing students grow in their math skills and knowing that they are building a foundation for academic success.

I've enjoyed helping others learn math and seeing success as time passes. I started helping classmates in high school, and it just took off from there.

Bachelors degree in computer engineering, math up through differential equations. Masters degree and 20+ years of work experience in software engineering which has required me to keep my math skills up through the years

About the lesson

I want to find out what area of math the student is needing help in. I will probably ask how they are being taught the concept (what the book or handouts say, are there teacher notes, what techniques are being used, etc), and where they are struggling in that. For general concept help, I usually work through problems with the student step by step, pointing out key things to remember or tips for remembering the process for a problem...then gradually start encouraging the student to do more of the problem on his or her own with gradually less guidance. Review concepts as needed.

For homework help, I will either work example problems first, or go over the steps for the problem so the student has something to refer to, then have the student try their own work and I will review answers and help them understand where necessary.
