About Katrina

I have been a classroom teacher for the past 6 years and I love it. Getting to know student personalities has always been my favorite part of teaching. My specialty is in fifth grade content standards, but I am endorsed K-8 and remember a bit of algebra from my own days of being a learner. I am a very visual learner, so that's how I prefer to teach.

I love the challenge of finding different fun and engaging ways of presenting content. Online learning has given me the push to continue crafting my abilities.

I've always enjoyed working with kids and witnessing their unique personalities. The profession has always offered an abundance of opportunities for me to learn and challenge myself.

I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education, a professional teaching license (OR), and a MA in curriculum and instruction. I have been working primarily with English learners (ELs) the last five years and can also speak Spanish.

About the lesson

I normally like to see what students are working on in school and start from there. If you are requesting summer tutoring, then I would want to give a quick diagnostic to identify areas which need my help most. I am happy to work with families to find ways I can best support your child.

My classroom doors have been welcoming a wide range of students: ELs, students with IEPs, TAG, those with math abilities ranging from kindergarten to sixth grade.

If you show up with a growth mindset attitude and are willing to put in the effort, I am eager to do the same! Math can be challenging, but it can also offer a new perspective. Challenges can be exciting if you have the tools to be successful.

Earlier this year, I offered after school math help to a group of 5-8 students each day. One of my students, E, showed up to every session and asked for help on specific problems from class. By the mid-year check, she had grown TWO grade levels in math based on her beginning of year diagnostic. I love thinking about how that learner showed up and took initiative. I also enjoyed witnessing how proud she was of herself at our last IEP meeting.
