About David
I do have a M-F 9-5 job so the only times I am available are evenings and weekends.
EYE OF HORUS TUTORING is one man (that's me, David!) seeking to spread his passion for mathematics and education to others. Many people of all ages complain about struggles to understand and grasp mathematical concepts. I have found that using such tools as visual aids, metaphors, and patience, even those that were sure they would never be able to "get it" have found that they can, in fact, learn and understand math.
I have always had a gift for numbers, dating back to my elementary school days when I was put a year ahead in mathematics and was able to complete a year of Calculus before I graduated High School. I have an undergraduate in Applied Mathematics with a concentration in Actuarial Science (LOTS of calculus and statistics) and an MBA. I currently work as a Financial Analyst.
My experience in tutor consists of helping those around me with their math homework, including my wife with College Algebra, and my 10 year old son with 4th grade arithmetic, as well as children of friends who needed and extra boost to get through their math homework. Everyone I have helped so far was in the "I just don't understand math!" mindset before I was able to help them reconceptualize math as something that they can definitely learn and excel in. And so that's my goal with tutoring: to help those who think they can't learn math, do just that.

First, get a feel for what they already know. See what they're able to do on their own. Then analyze where the gaps are.
Next, figure out what their learning style is. Are they more visual, or audible? Do they think more directly or abstractly? Do the use of metaphors help or just add a layer of confusion? The teacher should be able to adapt their style to the student's needs.
Above all else, don't let yourself get frustrated; but if the student gets frustrated let them work through it. Learning can be incredibly frustrating sometimes and that's okay. Allow the student to work through those feelings, then breath and relax and get ready to attack the problem again.
