About Alexander
Throughout my time at Columbia University I worked as a Teaching Assistant, Math and Computer Science Tutor, and Research Assistant. In all of those roles I interacted with students from many different backgrounds and interest in science. The most success I had was through showing students the fascinating side of science and explaining the why behind their schoolwork. Once students became interested in the subject the learning curve increased rapidly. I have kept this as a priority of my teaching style. Students learn the best when they’re interested in the subject.
I have tutored students for over 6 years (4 years in College and 2 years in Highschool). I have worked with students that were my age and younger and I learned that you have to work differently with each age group.

I think it is very important to get to know the student a little first. Every student reacts and approaches questions and problems differently. Based on that they also learn differently. Once I get to know the way a student thinks about problems and what the current level of understanding is I will start filling in gaps in the student’s understanding and move forward from there.
