About Ambika

Ambika Raina (UM-bee-ka RAY-na) is a top NYC-based tutor who provides academic, cognitive, and structural support. Over her 9 years of tutoring, Ambika has worked over 3,000 hours with over 200 students. Specializing in ACT, SAT, and ISEE/SSAP prep, Ambika has a talent for explaining concepts in a way that clicks, while bringing a warm, positive attitude to every session. She responds intuitively to various learning needs and challenges, from learning disabilities to anxiety, and brings executive functioning skills to those who need it, working on planning and organization.

All aspects of Ambika's approach help bring out her students' best academic performance, and a truly successful session infuses confidence, enthusiasm, and motivation in learning that transfers to all areas of life. Ambika studied Dance and Neuroscience at the University of Michigan. She believes academics and creativity go hand-in-hand and enjoys helping students see that diligence in school will help them pursue their passion, whatever it may be. Based in Brooklyn, she continues to freelance as a dancer and choreographer, and also enjoys pottery, music, and getting outdoors!

As a kid, I was constantly imitating my teachers. For my 8th birthday, I asked my parents for a chalkboard, and when they obliged, I would stand at the chalkboard every day after school pretending to teach my imaginary class.

I’ve always loved school and studying in an organized way, and as a tutor I’ve been able to pursue that passion for education and realize my dream of helping people study. A lifelong learner myself, I now bring my years of experience consistently training and growing as an educator to every session. I love being able to form strong connections with my students and give them the commitment, support, and structure they need to soar!

Throughout high school and college, I learned the power of efficient study tools and managing my time to juggle academics and my pursuit of dance. I also knew the power of having tutors, study groups, and study buddies to understand the material as deeply as possible with what little time I had. The key: not doing it alone.

In my years since college, I’ve been freelancing in the performing arts as a dancer and choreographer. I know firsthand the perseverance it takes to go for goals, and I use the very time management tools I teach in my own life!

Now, I bring my years of experience consistently training and growing as an educator to every session. I love being able to form strong connections with my students and give them the commitment, support, and structure they need to soar!

I worked 7 years with a tutoring agency where we had consistent professional development requirements in various categories: math, reading, and test-specific training, executive functioning skills, performance prep, client services, etc!
