About Emile Timothy

I'm an undergraduate sophomore student at Caltech, and I'm happy to provide tutoring services in any STEM subject! I work very well with students of all ages and abilities, and I've had over 150 hours of tutoring experience.

My specialties lie in Physics, Math, Computer Science, and Chemistry. I've studied the AP's, SAT's, IGCSE's, AS, and A-level subjects, and am currently an independent research fellow at Caltech.

My research-work with the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Observatory (LIGO) is based on creating an 'acoustic invisibility cloak' to prevent the quantum/thermal noise and vibrations from the atoms in the detectors of the interferometer from coupling with the gravitational waves detected.

I like teaching because it imbues me with a deep sense of active fulfillment and purpose.

During these uncertain times of the Coronavirus pandemic, I really want to help students whose high-school or introductory-collegiate education was disrupted.

I graduated from highschool with a GPA of 5.0/5.0, and scored a 1580 in my SAT's with 800's in my subject tests for Physics, MathII, and Chemistry. I now study at Caltech, where I am double majoring in Physics and Computer Science. I have had over 150+ hours of tutoring experience with 15 students this year, all of whom have done well (and aced) the exams they were preparing for.

About the lesson

I like to spend a couple of minutes to understand the new student - what they want to learn, how they work best, and then to figure out which tutoring strategy would be best for them. I would go over any material the student is studying and then explain concepts and go through practice problems with them! I'd try to push them slightly outside their comfort zone, while also ensuring that the rate at which they learn and pick up information is optimized.
