About Nakiya

I, myself am a current student of the math subject. I am always learning whether it be in class, or through practice by tutoring others. I may not know everything about the subject, but I am dedicated to teach myself in order to help guide others.

My passion for the math subject drives me to continue learning and teaching in practice to keep my memory strong. I enjoy helping students the most because it's amazing to see when they finally grasp content from my personal help.

I began just tutoring my cousins, and fellow friends siblings during my years of high school. Once I became an AVID tutor after graduation, more students were asking for my help, and I realized that I could provide help for others outside of the high school as well.

I am currently a student at Cal State University of Fullerton, studying Mathematics. I aim to become a high school educator once obtaining my degree.

Aside from being a student, I am also an AVID Tutor at a high school as well. AVID is a program designed to help prepare students for college, as well as teach them skills to help them be strong learners in their classes.

About the lesson

At the first encounter, I like to understand what the area of confusion is. I would like to see notes, or some form of scratch work so that I have something to base my information on. Once I understand the content, I will then ask a new student to work out a problem or question, up until their point of confusion. We then work together to identify the issues or struggles with the content, and then begin the process of "drilling with practice." Drilling with practice is pretty much what it says, we will practice and work together on the issues. If need be, I can formulate lessons as well so that a new student may get a different perspective of content.

I've mostly worked with both middle school, and high school students. Though these are students that I'm familiar with, I am willing to teach/help younger students as well.
