About Ben
For starters, I think an initial free first session is a good way to start off. This is my first time officially tutoring, but that is not to say I don't have experience. My mother is a math tutor and sometimes I will sit down with her and her student and help them if they get stuck on a problem. I also frequently help friends and classmates with math. I have plenty of experience teaching younger children, as I was a ski instructor for 4-10 year-olds for two years. I want to help students not only memorize math, but fully understand it. I absolutely love teaching math and I hope by enthusiasm rubs off on those I teach.
I have always loved math and wanted to spread that love to others. It is such a satisfying thing teaching someone something and seeing the progress that you are helping them make.
I initially started teaching skiing to 4-10 year olds when I was 16. I suppose my first experiences were maybe prior to this helping friends and classmates with math.
I am working on a minor in math currently and have completed everything through Calculus 3. I have had prior experience helping other students with math as well as another form of teaching: being a ski instructor for children.

First and foremost, I think it is entirely fair to do a free first session to see if it is a good fit. I think going into a class with a very strong basic understanding of the concepts taught in the class is essential, so learning the core concepts of the class is how I start off teaching.
I have not worked with any students officially, however, I have taught fellow students and classmates. I have also helped my mom and her students work through problems when they get stuck on something.
I would say look for someone who will teach with enthusiasm, rather than just blandly encouraging memorization. I believe people who thoroughly enjoy the thing they are teaching are much more effective instructors.

Since my tutoring credentials are not exceptional, I think $13 dollars an hour is fair. However, I think it is also fair to make a free first session.
