I started teaching last summer when I was approached by an aunt whose son wasn't doing well in AP computer science. I started doing one-on-one sessions with the students, teaching him various concepts and giving him additional resources to work on. A couple of months later, he had the highest grade in his class.

Typically with a new student, I will try to gauge them the first couple of days to see where they are at. Based on my assessment, I will decide the approach I will go forward with. The approach could be either giving the student additional worksheets and resources if needed or more notes/teaching time, etc.
