About Sandy
Hi my name is Sandy! I have been a teacher for more than 10 years in The areas of: reading, math, special education, response to intervention "both reading and math", dyslexia, and study skills. I know what it is to struggle as a young student. I struggled until patient teachers took the time to see how I learned best. I graduated magnum cum laude from Sam Houston University. I believe all students can learn we just need to find the best way to teach them.
After getting my associates degree at Blinn college in Bryan Texas, I knew I needed to be a teacher. However, I did not know if I wanted to teach adults or children. I intern at Disney World in Orlando Florida. After that experience I knew I was a teacher of children. I have never regretted the decision!
I'm a certified teacher from kindergarten through eighth grade. I am also certified in special education from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. I've worked in the areas of dyslexia and reading intervention as well as tutored for math and science.

When I work with new students I ask them questions about their interests and try to design things along those lines. Testing to see what they already know and what are the gaps in their knowledge is very important. I also observe them to find out how they learn best and try different methods to start out.
I've worked with students from GT to severely disabled.
Look for someone that is willing to take the time to find out how you learn best.
Currently a friend and I we're working towards creating a ranch for underprivileged and disabled kids. However, the funding did not come through as we we were hoping. Working with children of all ages is my passion! Whether it is teaching them the alphabet or teaching them to ride a horse. We are going to continue fundraising for a couple more years but we will not give up on the dream!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should consider what their interests are, what kind of outdoor and indoor activities they enjoy, and where they think they struggle the most.
