About Mathieu

I have given my exam improvement method to over 20 students in high school and college. Each one of these students has seen their scores on exams go from as low as 35% to 90% and above.

I began as a Learning Assistant for Calculus at my university.

I have done mathematical research in algebraic geometry. I've also worked as a tutor for college students for over 4 years. I've helped over 10 students in my undergrad improve their grades on tests. I am currently working as an analytics support representative in law enforcement for my full-time job.

About the lesson

I will first need to know exactly what subject you need help with (i.e. instead of saying "math" please specify if it is Geometry/Algebra/etc.). I'd like to get to know your approach to problem solving. Once I understand how you approach the problem, we can then look through how you think about it and what I can do to help you.

I have worked with college students, high school students, adults over 30, and non-native English speakers.

I have worked with students as young as 8. However the investment in my skills is best used for high schoolers and beyond. Particularly due to the discipline required to successfully implement my exam-improvement techniques.

I am unfortunately not able to teach in another language other than english at this time.

Make sure that you have your exact goals in mind, and prepare to have your homework/tests looked at, especially if you are not getting the grades you want. Be honest with your homework/test studying habits and tell the tutor exactly how you prepare.

Allow yourself to be teachable. Do not get discouraged if you do not understand something and be willing to accept how your tutor teaches things. Remember that you can always find another tutor if they're not a right fit, but give every tutor a chance to teach you.

Most importantly, be OK with not understanding something on day 1. With math especially, the topics only get more complicated the higher up you go. The people who are often the strongest in math are the people who are patient enough to keep trying, even if they don't understand something on day 1.

This first lesson offered with Mathieu will allow you to get to know each other and clearly specify your needs for your next lessons.

Details

I charge 40$ an hour for my services, per student.

I only tutor one student at a time, I do not make exceptions to this rule for any reason. If you have two students needed tutoring at the same time, you will need to pay for at least one hour for each and have them sit down with me one at a time

For sessions that are more than 1 hour long, I will only charge 20$ for every additional hour. This applies if and only if the next hour is within 15 minutes of the previous, and for the same student that the first hour was designated. This policy is for my exam prep sessions, which tend to take longer than an hour.

Additional hours for these sessions are discounted, because of the importance that tests have towards a grade.
