About Kevin

I have 18 years experience teaching math from grade 6 through grade 12 as well as some college level classes. I have experience in both the AP and IBDP programs.

I enjoy the challenge of making mathematics interesting to students who haven't had success in mathematics or find it boring.

I got started teaching after spending 3 years coaching track and cross country running during college. I love to find ways to help other people improve their skills and determine long range plans towards continual improvement.

I have a Masters in the art of teaching. I have 18 years experience in teacing. I have worked for Sylvan Learning Center, and have tutored for many hours in college as well. I also have attend many professional development sessions on learning theories and learning styles.

About the lesson

The first step in working with a new student is to learn about the person. What is their comfort level with mathematics? What strengths and struggles does the student have? What are the students goals through tutoring?

Generally, I will proceed with some problems for the student to try that are typical stumbling blocks for a mathematical student of their age.

There will be homework or tasks assigned to help determine growth or understanding between sessions.

I have worked with students from all economic levels, a diverse collection of students academically, socially, and nationally. The majority of students I have worked with have been 9th through 12th grade levels. However, I have taught middle school mathematics for three years and tutored from grade 3 all the way through collegle level classes.
