About Dan

I have extensive knowledge of math, science and business management...backed by 4 college degrees, 30 years of world travel, and 57 years of life experience.

My college education:

- Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics

- Masters Degree in Business Management

- Masters Degree in International Strategic Studies

- Associate Degree in Viticulture and Wine Technology.

Current Status: I'm a retired Air Force Colonel. I am a tutor because I want to help others. My schedule is very flexible!

My reward comes from your success! I've been helping others learn for over 30 years--as a substitute teacher in upstate New York and in the U.S. Air Force as an aviation instructor.

I started teaching when I became an instructor in the U.S. Air Force more than 30 years ago.

My college education and 30-years flying aircraft in the Air Force provided me with extensive and practical math and science skills.

Before our first session I will contact you to determine specific topics and/or improvement areas.  I will prepare for our first session using these inputs.  At the end of our first session I will determine level of progress made and create a plan for future sessions.  After our first meeting I will ask for your review and feedback in order to improve and prepare for follow-up sessions.

When I was a substitute teacher in New York, I worked with students of all ages and backgrounds...from 7th grade through 12th grade.   In the Air Force, I worked with recent high school and college graduates.

Hire a teacher who is sincerely interested in helping you improve.  Try to find a teacher who believes: "It's about you (the student)...it's not about the teacher."  To help do this, I suggest asking the prospective teacher how they measure progress.  Do they attempt to measure progress immediately (during the first meeting)?  A teacher who feels strongly about your success will not leave the first meeting without determining if any progress has been made.  Hire a teacher who has a solid plan for measuring progress.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A student should be as specific as possible when asking for help.  Before the first meeting, students should ask themselves..."What will I say when the teacher asks me what I need help with?"

Another question some students should ask themselves:  "Do I have strong studying techniques and habits that will keep me on track after our tutoring sessions are complete?"   If the answer is "No" then maybe you should ask the tutor to help you improve  self-study skills.
