About Tyler

Many students dislike math as a subject, but I feel like this frequently comes from a feeling of frustration at not "getting it" as quickly as others. Once you get behind it can feel quite daunting to catch up, but with the right instruction it can be done. I have tutored many different students of varying ages and skill levels during my time freelancing for friends and family, as well as a couple years working for an after school math center, and I have found that this exposure has made me a flexible instructor. This adaptablity helps me to teach the way that would be most effective for each individual student. This also means I am able to teach all grade levels and can even help with common core materials.

Qualifications:

Graduate of USF College of Mechanical Engineering

2 years instructing for Mathnasium

Earning my degree at USF required me to take math courses up through Differential Equations, though typically I would teach students ranging from first grade to seniors in high school who may potentially be taking AP Calculus.

My time at Mathnasium has allowed me to experience many different learning styles and given me the ability to adapt my teaching style to match them. Whether the student is an eager third grader or a senior that just wants to graduate and move on, or anyone in between, I am up to the task.

About the lesson

I learn how the student currently works through problems before making any changes. If someone already has a system that works well for them and there is no reason to shake things up then doing so can cause more harm than good. However, if the student is attempting to force themselves to solve problems in a way that is holding them back I will introduce new methods until we find one that is more in sync with their learning and problem solving style.
