About Amanda
I have been tutoring students since 2006 and know how to best support student needs. I am also a certified teacher with a mathematics emphasis and a master's degree in TESL. I am willing to provide support through video chats on the computer or in person if desired.
I enjoy supporting students to find their full potential. Education can be such an overwhelming experience and it is "easy" to get discouraged and "check out." I love when my students see what they are truly capable of and see their own success through hard work and dedication.
I got started in teaching because it was what I always wanted to do since I was in Kindergarten. I have spent my whole life working towards this goal of helping others. There is no grade level I love more, I just love the experience of working with students and helping them succeed.
I am a certified teacher with multi-grade level experience. I have been tutoring students for as long as I can remember. I use data, positive feedback and continual support to help motivate students to do their best.

When working with a new student I like to get the student's perspective about their education experience, their interests and struggles. I also communicate with their parents to see what they see, in addition to forming a relationship with the teachers so I get a full view of the student's requirements and participation.
I spent my student teaching years in 1st-4th grade classrooms and volunteered in an 8th grade math class. Following graduation, I worked with 7th graders in Math and Science and then moved into a 6th-8th grade position. To expand my experience I moved to elementary school and worked with 3rd graders for a few years and then looped with a class and taught 4th grade. Throughout these many years I have tutored students 3rd -12th grade.
The first step to success is knowing when you need support, so you are off to a great start by seeking help! By hiring me, I will help you get back on track, become self aware of your success and struggles, develop habits and strategies to use when new struggles arise, and to find the "joys" in education. Schooling takes up such a large portion of our lives and our childhood experience, I want you to enjoy these moments as much as possible rather than dread each day.
The Pandemic is such a major event in our history and has completely altered our experience with education. I am not "fond" of this event but I am grateful that this event have given me the opportunity to challenge my abilities and has forced me to grow and learn as an educator. I continue to "add tools to my teacher toolbox" during these times.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
One question to consider is teachers often provide instructions and directions on their expectations, have you referred to these documents before reaching out?

Amanda took time to get to know my daughter when she was tutoring her. While helping my daughter develop math skills she also taught her problem solving skills and helped her become more confident in math. Now at UHS, my daughter continues to use the skills she learned from Amanda. When my friends and students ask me to recommend a math tutor, Amanda is always the first person who comes to mind.
I had a great experience! I found it very easy to get along with her and have conversation which helped with being comfortable. She also helped me with equations by creating small sayings that helped me memorize equations better. When I did not understand a problem solving technique she would continue to show me a different way until I got it down. I would definitely come back to her if I need any more help with math she was very patient.
It was a great experience
