About Maya

I am majoring in Public Policy Analysis with a concentration in Physics, so I have a broad range of college coursework, from politics to economics to Calculus (through Calculus 3) to physics. I am comfortable teaching each of those subjects, as well as writing and English, Spanish, and French. I also would be happy to tutor for ACT/SAT test prep, as well as teach piano lessons!

Tutoring, especially during this time of virtual communication and interaction, provides a unique opportunity to form a relationship and a mentorship. Online school is difficult (my college switched to fully online in March, so I have grappled with it myself!) and I believe that having individual assistance and support is particuarly invaluable during such a tumultuous period.

I've only recently decided on my major, and a deciding factor was the fascination and passion it brings me. I wholeheartedly believe that learning -- not just memorizing, but truly understanding -- makes us happier, more engaged people. When we can apply what we've learned to our surroundings, we have these "lightbulb moments" and empower ourselves to explore and pursue them.

As a tutor, I love to help students not only understand their schoolwork and develop as scholars, but also to cultivate and nourish their interests, and learn how to integrate them into the classwork they may find dull or too challenging. With a little creativity and a connection to something a student finds more gripping, we can fuel learning and excitement together!

I have completed AP and college coursework in Calculus, Physics, French, Spanish, Economics, and Government. I also took the ACT and the SAT and scored highly on both, so would be comfortable and happy tutoring for test prep as well.

I have taken piano lessons for 15 years now, including in college, and would be thrilled to teach!

About the lesson

I am ready to jump into tutoring right away -- I do not do any sort of consultation that requires you to pay before we even get started!

At our first session, I'll start off with a few minutes of us getting to know each other and making sure I understand your goals with the content we'll be working on. That said, open communication is hugely important to me, so I welcome any of your thoughts or opinions on how to get started!
