About Alvin

I am currently a high school graduate who will be entering the University of Pennsylvania's class of 2024 as a biology major. I love teaching mathematics (geometry, algebra 1&2, Pre-calculus, Calculus AB/BC), Biology (Honors, AP, and IB), and Chemistry (Honors, and AP). I graduated from Walnut High School with a 4.0 unweighted GPA. I have the experience and knowledge needed to help you succeed. I am also available for ACT tutoring; I personally scored a 35 composite score which has enabled me admission to all the UC's, Johns Hopkins University, UPenn, Dartmouth, USC, Vanderbilt, and much more. I can also help in crafting your college applications in order to make it stand out in an increasingly competitive applicant pool. I have served as a tutor to family friends and my fellow peers and have the skills needed to guide all my students to success.

I started tutoring underclassmen at Walnut High School through a program where high achieving students were matched with students who were struggling or had difficulty understanding particular concepts.

I have taken a total of 8 AP courses and 1 IB HL 2 course throughout high school. I understand the materials teachers are teaching and how to optimize studying habits and memorization techniques in order to ensure academic success. I have scored 5's on all of my AP exams and look forwards to helping others succeed as well. I also have saved notes from each of my classes which I can provide as part of my service.

My AP courses: European History, US History, Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Psychology, Chemistry, Computer Science

IB Courses: Biology HL 2

I typically ask a few questions to get to know a student before I agree/disagree to take someone on. I believe there is more to learning than finding a good teacher. That teacher should be able to connect with the student and share common goals of academic and personal success.

I have worked with mainly high school students during my time at Walnut High School, however, I'm also capable of teaching students in middle/elementary school.

Pick a teacher who has gone through the same situation as you. They will be more likely to understand the struggles you are experiencing and be more capable as a teacher. Pick a teacher who has taken the same course or subject material recently, they have the greatest skill/understanding with the subject.

I really appreciate the country's push towards racial equality taking place right now. I believe this movement will lead to greater reform and justice for those who have been negatively impacted for generations.
