About Michael

We are a small, sincere community of Zen practitioners in West Seattle. Ocean Light Zen Center is the Seattle chapter of the Kwan Um School of Zen, a tradition that originated in China more than 1500 years ago, travelled to Korea and was brought to the US by Zen Master Seung Sahn in 1972. Our school now has more than 100 Zen centers around the world, all practicing the same ancient and beautiful meditation forms. Learn more at OceanLightZen.org

Zen meditation is an essential part of my life. I love to share this practice with anyone eager to improve mindfulness, attentiveness, or just seeking clarity in their life.

I have been practicing meditiation for more than 35 years. It started with exposure to guided meditiation as a college athlete and led to Zen meditiation years later.

I am a Senior Dharma Teacher in the Kwan Um School of Zen with almost 25 years of practice in this tradition.

About the lesson

We welcome you, show you the basics of Zen meditation, and then give you the opportunity to practice with a group of supportive regulars.

Many hundreds of students. All ages. All walks of life.

If a teacher charges you money to learn Zen meditiation, run away. Ask every teacher about their own regular practice.
