About Laura

I am a dedicated and experienced tutor with a strong background in both music and French. I hold a BA in Music and French from the University of Galway and a Master’s degree in Composition from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I also hold a Level 5 TEFL certificate and have achieved Grade 8 in piano from the Royal Irish Academy of Music. With several years’ experience teaching Junior and Leaving Certificate Music and French, as well as piano and English as a foreign language, I’ve worked with students of all ages and abilities—both in classrooms and through private tuition. My aim is to create a supportive, structured, and engaging learning environment where students can feel confident and motivated to reach their goals. Whether you're preparing for state exams, learning a new skill, or looking to build on existing knowledge, I tailor each lesson to meet your individual needs.

About the lesson

I believe in creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence in their abilities. My approach is student-centered: I tailor each lesson to suit the learner’s individual needs, learning style, and goals—whether that's preparing for exams, developing practical skills, or simply gaining more confidence in a subject. In music lessons, I combine practical exercises with listening, discussion, and creative tasks to deepen understanding and enjoyment of the subject. In language lessons, I focus on communicative methods—using conversation, real-life materials, and interactive activities to develop fluency and comprehension. For composition, I help students find their own voice while building a strong foundation in technique and structure. Lessons are typically 1 hour, but I can adapt to shorter or longer sessions depending on the learner’s age, focus, and availability. I hold a BA in Music and French and a Master’s in Composition from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, along with a Level 5 TEFL qualification. I have several years’ experience teaching Junior and Leaving Cert Music and French, as well as piano and English as a foreign language, both online and in person. I teach students of all ages—from school students preparing for state exams to adult learners returning to study—and I always aim to meet each learner exactly where they’re at.
